Khaleesi *Extra Large!
This is one of the largest suzanis I have ever seen. It's way too big to go on a king size bed so would make a wonderful wall hanging, backdrop or textile mural. See photo of me standing next to it for size reference. Note: Has a small hole (note really noticeable with the pattern) and some slight wear, a little bit of color run and fading normal for it's age, but this only adds to the charm of the piece.
My imported suzanis are all vintage and are beautiful hand woven embroidered textiles made in Tajakistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. Suzani is from the Persian word سوزن Suzan, which means needle.
Suzanis were traditionally made by Central Asian brides as part of their dowry, and were presented to the groom on the wedding day. These hand-embroidered vintage suzanis are infused with the character that only comes from everyday use. Perhaps created by a bride-to-be to show her devotion to her betrothed and then in lean times bartered away to a traveling Gypsy for money or household necessities pulled from the depths of his donkey cart. The story of each of these suzani is as rich as their colors, as intricate as the designs that cover their surfaces.
